Comment:

 pidgin itself is most certainly not involving the FreeBSD package
 management tools, however it is possible (and possibly even likely) that
 the system perl tools have been told to use the FreeBSD package management
 tools when installing perl modules.

 A better log of exactly what pidgin was doing when this occurs would be
 helpful.
