Comment:

 For your sound issue check that sounds aren't muted (either in the Tools
 menu or in the preferences).

 As to the connected display issue, disable all your accounts and then
 enable them one-by-one (watching the debug window) until one of them
 appears to finish connecting but the displayed message doesn't change. For
 most accounts the connection process should take only moments.
