 May be it compiled in, but on load shared library "libpurple.so" your
 system select wrong library. It may be if you not uninstall other version
 of pidgin/libpurple.

 Try to "make uninstall" in pidgin source, and then search libpurple in
 filesystem (find / -name "libpurple*"). If you found one, then
 uninstall/delete it's.
