 > Do you really need to say the person's name when you are talking to them
 via a private message?

 Yes. I also think it should be included for the purpose of consistency -
 it's annoying to switch chat windows and press tab to actually see a tab
 in the text box. There are other practical reasons like talking in /notice
 in IRC.
