 Depending on what you're looking for, you can disable buddy icons in the
 buddy list via Buddies->Show->Buddy Details (also makes it the "small
 list", but eh), you can hide icons per-conversation (right click on the
 icon and choose 'Hide icon'), or you can disable the infopane via
 Preferences->Conversations and uncheck "Show detailed information".
