 There is a reason to introduce such an option. These buddy icons are
 extremely annoying and I hate them also in webforums.

 Do you think it hurts, making such a feature optional, like it is in
 nearly every forum? I think the user should have a choice to see these
 icons in his buddy list or not.

 @darkrain42: But I'd like to have the "big list". I can't hide the buddy
 icons in the buddy list indiviually. If I right click a buddy icon in the
 buddy list, I don't have a 'Hide Icon'.

 And, btw., I haven't seen a difference between checking and unchecking
 "Show detailed information". But this can be, because I'm quite new to
 Pidgin.

 So, please, reopen this bug, and think about implementing this feature.
 These buddy icons are really annoying and the "big list" with the online
 status written under the buddy names is quite useful.
