 Asterisk uses regular XMPP Jingle (XEP-166).
 GTalk uses Google's version of Jingle.

 There is indeed an issue with NAT traversal in Pidgin, I will suggest then
 to give a shot on Jingle Nodes Specs for being simple enough to solve it
 right in the next release.
