#10762: Server doesn't support blocking
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: foxmajik | Type: defect

When I attempt to block someone on Jabber I get this message:

 "server doesn't support blocking."

However, the person is in fact blocked. They can no longer send messages
to me, they are informed they are blocked and right-clicking their entry
in the contact list reveals a "Unblock" option on the context menu.

It seems there was a patch pushed for this:

 http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8045

However that was six months ago and I still don't see it in the release
 version of libpurple.

One of two things should happen:

 1. The message shouldn't appear because it is, in fact, a lie.
 2. The person shouldn't be blocked, which makes the message true.

 I would prefer this solution:

If the server doesn't support blocking the contact should be blocked on
 the client side.

"The server doesn't support blocking" is not an acceptable statement to
someone who is being IM bombed, verbally abused or otherwise
inconvenienced by someone that they would realistically be able to block
 using any other IM software.
