 I use Finch as well which tests the same.

 Instead of removing the error maybe it could be rephrased so it's more
 honest:

 "Because the XMPP server reported that it does not support blocking the
 contact will be blocked on this instance of Pidgin only.  If you log into
 this account from another instance of Pidgin the contact will still be
 able to send messages to you until you block them on that computer."

 Converse to my previous use example, informing someone that a contact was
 not blocked when in fact they were can cause another problem:  What if you
 were angry at someone temporarily and decided not to take further action
 to block them, assuming, based on the error message that they had not been
 blocked?  You'd think they had decided to stop talking to you altogether
 because you'd have no idea they were blocked unless you just happened to
 right-click their name in the contact list.
