 The list of people in a chat room is rather akin to a Christmas tree.

 Perhaps a more useful use of colours would be to only assign them whenever
 somebody says something.  Only the few people who actually talk get
 colours (using the same scheme as before) whereas lurkers get boring old
 grey.
