 This occurred for me after upgrading to 2.6.2 (from 2.5.8) just now.
 Using two Yahoo accounts I was invisible although my status said
 "available".  Restarting Pidgin and adding it as a firewall exception (no
 idea if this is relevant) left me visible on one account, invisible on the
 other.  Disabling and re-enabling the errant account fixed the situation
 for the moment; will have to see if it recurs.
