 I've been solving this problem by logging into AIM express and blocking
 then unblocking a buddy. After I unblock, or even sometimes after I simply
 log into AIM express my buddy list shows up in my pidgin window. It works,
 but is incredibly annoying to go through this process each time I want to
 use pidgin.
