I would rather hope that this isn't a bug, less work for me :P

 > If a Yahoo buddy is available and become idle because of inactivity
Pidgin changes the buddy status to "idle - idle" (yes idle is displayed
twice) but it does not show the idle time. If I sign out and back in again
then the Yahoo status message is e.g. "idle 18m".
 > So after a re login the idle time of the buddy is displayed instead of
the previous "idle - idle" message.

 I checked with Pidgin 2.6.2, idle - idle isn't displayed.[[BR]]
Is your buddy using Pidgin or Yahoo Messenger?[[BR]]
Has he chosen to display certain status message when he gets idle?[[BR]]
Has he chosen to not report the idle time, when he gets idle?[[BR]]

Idle time is not reported when your buddy has chosen "do not report idle
time", so buddy will go idle with no reported time. If you relogin, time
won't be the actual idle time, maybe starts from 0.
If the buddy has chosen to report the idle time, you get an idle time, and
on relogin obtain the actual time buddy has been idle for.

I do suspect there might be some bug with idle reporting in Yahoo, but I
am not sure what exactly it is.

 > And is it correct that a buddy doesn't become idle if the status is
different from available? I mean a buddy with the status "busy" never
becomes idle even if he is inactive for hours.

True, a busy buddy will not get idle.

 > And my last question, MSN isn't able to display a idle time right?
MSN doesn't report an idle time, but you will have to confirm it from some
developer more familiar with MSN internals.
