 Were you logged in to gmail and Pidgin while the buddy was online, and
 then you saw them disconnect in gmail but not in Pidgin?

 I haven't yet tried to reproduce this, but the only possible explanation I
 can imagine is that the offline presence is getting lost (i.e. we're just
 not seeing `<presence type='unavailable' from='yourbuddy at gmail.com'
 to='yourusername at gmail.com' />`) or...well, actually, that's the only one
 I can imagine :)
