 I have been experiencing this issue for over a year now I think.  I use a
 program call John's Background Switcher which switches my background to
 various backgrounds found on Flickr and other photo storage sites.  Any
 ways, I thought it might have been the two programs in conjunction but
 after getting another switcher it was still doing the same thing.

 The highest memory leak I usually get is 1.6gigs taken up.  That's about
 the time it stops, the program totally halts, and comes to a freeze and
 won't respond any more.  Before that Pidgin will just have a short freeze
 every so often.  With the climbing memory leak the freezes last longer and
 longer.

 I am currently running Windows 7 x64, AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core, 4gigs of
 ram, GeForce 9800gtx, on a Asus motherboard.
