Comment(by tensproxy):

 Hello everybody,

I confirm this annoying behavior of Pidgin 2.6.6 (libpurple 2.6.6) on a
 Xubuntu 9.10.

I get this prompt a lot (same as the above one):

   SSL Certificate Verification
   Accept certificate for gmail.com?
The certificate for gmail.com could not be validated.
The certificate claims to be from "mail.google.com" instead. This could
mean that you are not connecting to the service you believe you are.
The certificate is not trusted because no certificate that can verify it
 is currently trusted.

 The Button "View Certificate..." prompts:

   Common name: mail.google.com
   Fingerprint (SHA1):
 68:ac:69:df:be:72:b3:0d:08:0e:54:10:84:fd:78:91:fc:bd:6d:9b
   Activation date: Fri Dec 18 01:00:00 2009
   Expiration date: Mon Dec 19 00:59:59 2011

Shall I also upload a backtrace?

 Cheers,

 tensproxy
