Currently in order to add you google talk account you pidgin you have to
do some internet "digging", something that most users are not able to do.

This is request to change the default settings for Google Talk accounts.

The default settings should be the ones presented on:
 http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Talk/thread?tid=5af91d70198c1bf6&hl=en

 Copied from the above URL:
 Basic Tab
 Protocol: xmpp
 Username ; username_only (no need for @gmail)
 Domain: gmail.com
 Resource: Home
 Password: Your_GMAIL_ Password

 Advance tab
Force old (port 5223) SSL: Checked
Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams: Un-Checked
 Connect Port: 443
 Connect Server: talk.google.com
File Transfer For Proxies: Leave blank or proxy.jabber.org
Proxy type: Use Global Proxy Settings

The usual IM user does not know about ports, firewalls or other "advanced"
stuff - and this is normal.

This would usually be counted as a feature request but due to current
behavior I do consider it a defect: "missing to default to most common use
 case".

By changing the default settings to those it will have a huge impact
regarding the adoption of the application to new users. I know at least
4-5 people that are not using it because they were not able to setup their
 accounts.

PS. In addition, the 443 port usage is a good solution for passing
 corporate firewalls.
