 I also hit this issue, recently, but I have no idea why. Pidgin 2.7.0 used
 to work ok, today I couldn't use shift, ctrl, right alt while in pidgin.
 I updated to 2.7.2 and it seems to work again.
 I also have Comodo installed, but it never caused problems before.
