 The same error message appeared as soon as I upgraded from 2.6.6 to the
 2.7.* so I doubt LAN/proxy/filter changes were made at the same time. And
 I didn't change anything else on my machine.

 I would downgrade to 2.6.6 to recheck, but the older version is not in
 Gentoo portage any more.

 How do I perform a network trace to see where I'm being blocked in
 accessing "vcs1.msg.yahoo.com"?
 I can then attach the results here.

 The admin of the LAN blocks certain ports, how do I check if I'm affected
 by this?
