It is entirely possible that 2.6.6 will connect on your network, however
that doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong.
There have been changes to make the login process more robust and more
similar to the native client that have an unfortunate side effect of
causing complications for people such as yourself who are on restrictive
networks.
It looks like it is likely your network blocks outbound traffic on port 80
(which is the port for standard web traffic) (or at least it is blocking
the connection to that particular server on port 80).
You can verify this in a terminal by running `telnet vcs1.msg.yahoo.com
80` - I'm pretty sure you'll see that it doesn't connect on that network.
