Comment:

 The problem is that we don't know if we need the password until after
 we've connected.  XMPP accounts may or may not require a password to
 manually entered (the authentication can be performed via GSSAPI
 integration with the system account, etc.).

 For protocols were we know that we need the password before connecting,
 the prompting already does happen at that time.
