 Many things other than pidgin were upgraded.

 No, all apps were closed before the upgrade.

 Yes unless (from another ticket):

 I am aware of that, I thought that this information might help you give me
 information.

 I liked Pidgin but can't get it to run again ... have been using it for
 several years now.
