 Using ubuntu 8.10 and trying to install using the instructions given here:
 http://www.pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/

 The message I get is:
 pidgin:
  Depends: libpurple0 but it is not going to be installed
  Depends: perlapi-5.8.8  but it is not installable
  Recommends: pidgin-libnotify but it is not going to be installed

 perlapi-5.10.0 is provided by perl-base maybe the version is too high??
