Comment:

 You can increase the size of the backlog by changing the value (while
 pidgin isn't running) of the `/purple/gtk/conversations/scrollback_lines`
 preference in `~/.purple/prefs.xml` there is no UI for this, but a plugin
 could easily be written to do so.
