 in near future?

The patch from openSUSE actually does have a few particularly annoying
bugs, such as losing saved passwords. We already have some keyring
support in a branch developed by one of our Summer of Code students, and
while we ''could'' integrate it prior to 3.0.0, it's going to be better
for everyone, distributions included, if we wait for 3.0.0 to do so. That
said, currently, I'm aiming for 2.7.x to be the last of the 2.x.y series,
providing bug and security fixes while we work on integrating a lot of our
previous Summer of Code work and removing deprecated API for 3.0.0. If
all goes according to my plan and desires, we could have a 3.0.0 by year
end (but don't even think about holding me to that--my plans often fail
 around here!).
