Comment:

 The threads are in Pidgin's process space, but that doesn't mean
 interaction with a firewall or security product on your computer (Windows
 Firewall in the case of that other ticket) isn't causing the issues.  What
 firewall/security products do you have?  Also, what plugins (in Pidgin) do
 you have enabled?
