 I only tested this with AIM, and it only seems to occur on OS X (I also
 tested it, without a repro, on a from-source build on Linux, and with the
 precompiled binary on Windows).

 I set an alias for myself by right-clicking myself on my buddy list,
 selecting "Alias...", entering "Me", and pressing enter.  Sending a
 message to myself displayed "Me", as expected, for both the sender and
 receiver.  I then modified my alias again, this time clearing the entered
 alias by backspacing through the characters and pressing enter.  Although
 my buddy list then displayed my original username, future messages
 continued to display the alias "Me".  I had to manually set my alias to my
 username for the username to be shown instead.
