 Same here on Ubuntu 10.04 (repository has only Pidgin 2.6.6). Started this
 evening. Several of these popups opened per second until I closed Pidgin.
 Never happened before.

 Restarting Pidgin seemed to fix it for now. And unlike others, I haven't
 noticed anyone missing from my buddy list yet.
