Comment:

 Ah, you're right; I apologize.  I wasn't ever looking at the code in the
 core.

 MattJ suggests whitespace pings (I guess we can steal the algorithm from
 the core and use it on outgoing messages).

 This is really broken though, and they shouldn't be doing it (instead,
 either check for TCP ACKs or send IQs, which mandate a response)
