 I'm on Ubuntu Karmic. When I try to launch pidgen, I get a halfway
 expanded ghost of a buddy list (a faint trapezoid, as thought it was
 halted as my buddy list was fading in) and all of gnome freezes. The only
 solution I've found is to hop over to another terminal (ctrl-alt-F4) and
 issue "killall pidgin" and "killall gnome-panel"

 When it happens, top shows gnome-panel using 100% of CPU, but it only
 seems to happen with pidgin. Everything else works fine as far as I can
 tell.

 This started today, I haven't run any updates in the last day or two. Not
 sure where to begin troubleshooting.
