 KDE has a long-standing bug which caused it to improperly escalate the
 notification pidgin uses and fail to unset it. I can no longer recall what
 the affected versions were or whether a fix was ever found (though I don't
 believe one was). I'm going to assume this is that issue. If you want to
 confirm you can use xprop on the conversation window (you will want to use
 the -id argument so as not to interfere with things by focusing the
 window) to check the window status as it notifies and de-notifies (-spy
 may be of use here). pidgin should be setting and removing the "urgency"
 hint (I forget exactly what xprop calls it in the output) when notifying
 and KDE/kicker/etc. escalates that to _NET_WM_DEMANDS_ATTENTION but then
 fails to remove it.
