Comment:

 Wanted to investigate this as you suggested, but failed to reproduce the
 whole issue. Even after I downgraded several packages, including kdelibs,
 kwin and pidgin itself, to the version I had when I first reported this
 issue, I fail to reproduce this bug. Strange indeed.
