 What clients wait for right-click to display a tooltip? That would make it
 a context menu not a tooltip. What delay value do you think other clients
 are using? What delay are you seeing pidgin use? What delay value would it
 be acceptable to you for pidgin to use?

 At this point pidgin (when using recent enough GTK+ versions) should be
 using the GTK+ gtk-tooltip-timeout setting (which may not be more
 discoverable but is at least more normal). I should also point out that
 the pidgin default of 500ms is the same as the GTK+ default.

 I believe the preference had been documented in other places but is not
 particularly frequently asked about.
