 I agree partially with Jack5.

 When I want to message someone who's offline, I simply fire ctrl+m on the
 main Pidgin window. Knowing a few characters of information and the smart
 auto complete does the rest.

 Nonetheless I'm really missing this specific feature. Especially because
 Pidgin enables that many different IM's, being able to access your contact
 from one list transparently would be extra useful.
