am having trouble getting gdb breakpoints to trip on logging in over XMPP.
Need to look into it further...

complaining that it will delay resolving the names until after a dynamic
library is loaded? (It's possible I messed something up, if you paste
what you're seeing in gdb even though the breakpoints aren't triggering,
 that might be helpful)

I should double-check that the install process for pidgin/cyrus-sasl did
not strip them (can't reach home machine now). Some of the other
dependent libraries were stripped, so I saw warning messages about them on
gdb startup. When I set the breakpoints on the requested symbols, it did
ask to delay name-resolving until plugins were loaded, which seemed
normal. Also, I was running gdb on the installed pidgin binaries and
plugins, should I be trying to run it from the built location, using
 {{{libtool --mode=execute gdb pidgin}}}? Will post a transcript if I have
 more trouble.
