 So what is causing this problem then GTK+ or Pidgin because everything ran
 fine on 2.6.6 & the GTK+ version that came with it.

 It spoils what was a very good feature. For new users who have never used
 pidgin before might be put off by custom smilies that don't render
 properly, i know i would be.

 Can't grumble though, after all it is a free program & other than the odd
 glitch here & there a good one.
