 I can confirm this issue with Pidgin 2.6.6-2.fc12 (libpurple 2.6.6), as
 well as with Pidgin 2.5.X on my previous Fedora 10 system.

 A colleague uses Pidgin 2.6.6 on Ubuntu and 2.7 on Windows Vista, and also
 has the issue.

 One more thing: our IRC server uses our LDAP tree for authentication.  IT
 tried shortening the LDAP reauth timeout to no avail.
