New description:

 Whenever one of my contacts changes their name, Pidgin isn't updated with
 the new name.  I looked in my blist.xml file and found that all of my XMPP
 contacts have aliases set.  I have never set aliases for any of my
 contacts.  I also deleted and re-added my XMPP account and the contacts
 were immediately assigned an alias.  The contact section in the blist.xml
 file looks like this:
