 I'm not sure I see the connection between still having the problem on
 Fedora 14 has to do with assuming the problem is pidgin.

 I'm also assuming that you are Lum from #pidgin in which case I'd like to
 apologize for never being around at the same time as you have been
 recently and would like to reiterate that the fact that your compositing
 manager was able to correctly draw the tooltip shadow tells me that
 pidgin/GTK+ is getting the size right and something later on is getting
 things wrong.

 Can you try running some non-KDE environment and seeing if the problem
 persists? Any other window manager should do as long as you aren't running
 it as a kwin replacement under KDE (it should be running without KDE).
