 Ok, so looking a little more into this, the error occurs whenever Pidgin
 tries to play a sound.  (Even when I try to preview a sound from prefs.)
 Muting all sounds is a workaround.

 I realize the backtrace shows the error as occurring in
 /usr/lib/liborc-0.4.so.0, but no other programs crash like this, so I'm
 not sure if Pidgin is at least partially to blame (and regardless felt
 like I should make a report in case anyone else comes here looking for a
 solution to this problem.)

 I guess I should make a bug report against this package with Ubuntu since
 even if there's a bug in Pidgin (sounds normally work fine for me) it
 shouldn't handle things by causing a segfault?
