 I have a buddy who is almost always logged in with his phone which has
 resourcename android<and some rubish> on status away, while he is also
 online with pidgin on status online, pidgin shows him as away on my
 buddylist and in my conversation window.

 What I would expect from pidgin that it checks the best status of all the
 online resources, like it does for grouped buddies
