Comment:

 You saw this issue when you were using GNOME? And you are certain you have
 no pidgin plugins loaded at all? (You checked after we asked?) Were you
 using a similar GTK+ theme under Gnome? Does this problem go away if you
 change GTK+/KDE/QT themes (preferably to something using a different core
 engine)?
