New description:

2.7.2 (running), 2.7.3 installing. Test system is windows 7 x64
 Professional.

We are trying to push out upgrades of Pidgin to our windows users as
updates (particularly critical, security ones) are available. However,
the typical user keeps pidgin running 24x7.

Please add a process at the beginning of install to gracefully shutdown a
running pidgin client so that the installer can complete properly even if
the user is currently running the application. If the installer is
running in silent install mode, maybe store the state of the client prior
to install and if it is running, silently launch application after install
 to minimize impact.

 Thanks.

Comment:

I came to that conclusion from the result of the patch installer, they
must be trying to get around the lack process kill/stop for the installer
(otherwise how can you have a successful silent installer if it fails when
 people are using it?).

I'll change this to request for enhancement, and change the description.

Changing to request for graceful shutdown of client as part of installer
(at least in silent install mode).
