 Pidgin has the ability to add chats to the Buddy List.  This is useful for
 long running chats with infrequent activity.  In such situations, though,
 the only notification of unread data is that the chat room name turns bold
 in the Buddy List.  I would like to be able to say that messages in a chat
 room should be treated like instant messages and trigger whatever
 notification exists for those (pop up new window, play sound, etc).

 Currently added chats have the properties "Autojoin when account connects"
 ("Auto-join") and "Remain in chat after window is closed" ("Persistent").
 I propose adding "Treat chat messages as IMs".
