 This may not be a GTK+ issue--OS X's X11 implementation is, for lack of a
 gentler term, completely braindead by default and requires tweaking to
 make it work properly (where "properly" is defined as "the way it works in
 the non-Apple world").  The command key acts as Meta by default, and the
 alt/option and control keys do nothing.  To make X11 behave properly, it's
 necessary to do some .Xmodmap stuff and change some options in the GUI
 configuration.
