 Indeed - I find that when I set the proxy in pidgin (GTK) - it produces
 the following XML in my accounts.xml:

 »···»···<proxy>
 »···»···»···<type>envvar</type>
 »···»···</proxy>

 As it stands - the code sees proxy type envvar after this has been set.

 If I set the proxy by hand to type 'tor' and set host to '127.0.0.1' and
 port to '9050' - it appears to work as expected.

 I'll keep digging around...
