 You could provide at least the basic information:
 OS? What protocol (irc, msn, icq, ...)?
 Something about your network (maybe using networkmanager) would be fine,
 too.

 How will you detect if your network connection is not working? Normally
 some kind of timeout is used.

 1: Did you try statenotify-plugin? However, the tray icon or the symbol in
 the chat window will indicate your network status.

 2: Pidgin is automatically reconnecting for me.

 3: It is _not_ pidgin saying your account is beeing temporarily disabled,
 it's the server. And there is no really way to avoid that. Else your
 account could be hacked by trying to log in with every possible password.

 4: Especially in your situation this wont't make any sense. Use a screen
 saver with "password required" and no one will have access to you password
 file.
