Comment(by smitty):
Thanks DBDigital much appreciated,
the webaware option in pidgin was unchecked on my ICQ account, it was off
on pidgin since day 1 , that one i'm pretty sure about.
The weblink to the webicq doesn't have the settings you talked about, or i
didn't find it. So i went on the main icq site, and looked in settings on
my profile and saw "Share my online status with ICQ users" was unchecked
too. But thats no garantee a spambot won't try to make contact by
phishing.
So i just don't get it. the spambots must just be fishing for active
users. Best not to answer anything when you click deny on pidgin, just
click cancel.
But the problem remains that eventough all this is done, i still get add
requests each day.
So it all comes down to pidgin still displaying the reqs it receives from
the server or direct from a spambot if they bypass the server somehow,
eventhough the privacy setting in tools is set to "only users on my
buddylist".
so i guess it doesnt respect its own settings.
That's an annoying bug that needs to be squashed.
