New description:

 In 2.4.0 the animated typing indicator was removed although many users
 would have liked to keep it (including me). The attached file will give
 the users an option to choose between the in-line notification and the
 classic animated notification.

 I originally planned to make both possible at the same time but somehow it
 won't work out due to technical reasons. I couldn't figure out why because
 I don't know enough about the notification system and/or GTK.

 I included the German translation for the new radio buttons in the patch,
 too.
