 I used to use Google Talk before Pidgin, and I haven't used other clients
 before, but I find it extremely annoying and a giant waste of space that
 in a chat the person's screen name has to show up before whatever they say
 every time they say something in chat.
 So if say, for example, somebody said something three times, it shows up
 as:

 [name]: [stuff]

 [name]: [stuff]

 [name]: [stuff]


 Google talk was much nicer in that it shortened this to:


 [name]: [stuff]


 [stuff]


 [stuff]



 So it implies that the same person is still talking. When I, or somebody
 else in a multi-person chat, say something, it then shows the screen name
 the first time, and any subsequent messages just show the message without
 the name.

 Pidgin's method is particularly annoying, as I make my contacts' screen
 names their full name. When I chat, I use a small chat window on the side
 or corner of my desktop while I work on other stuff. As a result half of
 the chatbox is taken up by either my name or the name of the person I am
 chatting with.

 It would be nice if Pidgin had either an option or a plugin to toggle
 whether the screen name would show up every time, or simply imply that if
 there is no screen name it's still the same person talking.
